What is The Context Bible?
The Context Bible is a Bible reading app that surfaces the historical setting, early church interpretation, academic discourse, and cross-references behind every passage. It's built for readers who want to understand Scripture in its original context, not just read the words on the page.
Who is the app for?
Anyone who wants to read Scripture with more depth — students, pastors, small group leaders, everyday Christians, and curious skeptics alike. If you've ever wondered "who was this written to, and what did it mean to them?", this app is for you.
How is this different from other Bible apps?
Most Bible apps focus on the text alone — translations, plans, devotionals. The Context Bible focuses on what surrounds the text: the world the writer lived in, the way the earliest readers understood it, what modern scholarship has uncovered, and how it connects to the rest of Scripture. Context is the product, not an add-on.
What translations are available?
Twenty-nine translations across English and Spanish. English includes KJV, NIV (2011 + Anglicized), NIrV, NASB (1995 + 2020), Amplified, Berean Standard, Free Bible Version, Literal Standard Version, World English Bible, American Standard, Geneva Bible, EasyEnglish, Plain English (Aboriginal), Passion Translation, the Text-Critical English New Testament, and more. Specialized canons include the Catholic Public Domain Version, the Orthodox Jewish Bible, and the World Messianic Bible (American and British editions). Spanish includes La Biblia de las Américas, Nueva Biblia de las Américas, Nueva Versión Internacional (2015 and 2025), Reina-Valera Antigua, Versión Biblia Libre, Palabra de Dios para Ti, and Gloss Spanish.
What's the difference between Historical Context and Early Church View?
Historical Context covers the world the passage was written into — the culture, politics, geography, and audience of the time. Early Church View covers how the earliest readers, the church fathers, and the councils received and interpreted that same passage. Together they show you both the original setting and the first centuries of reception.
Can I switch translations easily?
Yes. The translation selector is at the top of the reader — tap and pick any of the 29 translations. Your notes, highlights, and saved verses carry across, so you can compare a passage in KJV, NIV, and the Berean Standard in a few taps without losing your place.
How do verse cards work?
Tap the share icon on any verse to generate a shareable image. Pick the ratio you need — 1:1 for Instagram, 3:4 for Stories, 16:9 for everything else — and adjust the background opacity and blur. Save it to your camera roll or send it straight to a friend.
Can I take notes and highlights?
Yes. Highlight any passage, attach notes, and build a personal library of the verses you keep returning to. Everything syncs across every device you sign in on.
Is the app available in Spanish?
Yes. The interface is available in English and Español, and you can switch languages anytime in Settings.
Is The Context Bible free?
Yes. The Context Bible is fully free — every reader gets the same content, the same translations, the same context panels, the same notes and highlights. No tiers, no upsell.

We only use your name to personalize your experience — that's it. No ad targeting, no data resale. You can update or remove your name anytime in Settings.
